Repair or Replace Your Atlas Copco Controller? How to Decide

When a compressor controller fails, fitting a new one isn't always the right move — and neither is repairing. Here is a practical way to decide.

Start with the fault, not the price

The first question isn't "how much" — it's "what actually failed." A controller that is dead from a power surge or water ingress is a different case from one that boots but has a cracked touch screen, or one that simply lost its settings. Some faults are economically repairable at board level; others (a failed display, corroded PCB, or damaged processor) usually make replacement the safer long-term choice.

When repair makes sense

• The fault is localised — a power-supply section, relay, a single input, or a connector.
• The controller is a rare or discontinued unit where a new replacement is hard to source.
• You have a spare machine down and want to keep the original as a tested backup.
• The display and housing are intact; only the electronics need attention.

When replacement is the better call

• The display itself has failed, or the board shows corrosion / burn damage.
• Downtime is costing you more than the controller — a new, tested unit gets you running now.
• The machine is being upgraded anyway (for example moving to an Mk5S Touch platform).
• You need warranty cover and predictable reliability going forward.
